I'm constantly looking for resources to help me get closer to the treasure chest of culinary experiences I was blessed with while traveling through West Africa, East Africa, South Africa, Cuba, Haiti, Turkey and, The Middle East. My vision is to share all of the wonderful, nutrient rich, super foods, leaves, peppers and, fruits that were included in snacks, meals and, beverages I enjoyed on my travels.
One of my favorites is Moringa, an ingredient that I learned to appreciate while visiting with the people of Senegal. The Senegalese people refer to Moringa as, "Never Die!" Moringa is proven to help with blood circulation, can lower cholesterol, is a good source of iron, vitamin rich, reduces inflammation, lowers blood sugar, acts as an antioxidant and boosts energy levels.
Baobab, is another superfood I learned to enjoy while in Senegal. Both Moringa and Baobab are consumed in powder form or, dried. Baobab is known to help with inflammation, and digestion due to the high fiber content. It is also said to aid in weight loss, rich in many vitamins, balances blood sugar levels, helps boost energy levels, is good for skin, helps the immune system, and is a good source of iron. Baobab is excellent for overall gut health due to its natural probiotic elements.

“The Senegal Jinjeer (Ginger) Pound Cake.”
While staying with family in Senegal I was introduced to amazing drinks, and one that I would drink most regularly was fresh, ginger tea. The ginger would knock out mucus almost immediately and if I was not feeling well I drank ginger tea and would almost immediately feel relief. So to pay homage, and respect to a place I truly love and call home, I created the “The Senegal Jinjeer (Ginger) Pound Cake!

The Garden of Eden Pound Cake has a strong but delicate taste of lavender, with a rose glaze. This cake is inspired by my travels through Tanzania, Turkey and, Dubai.
“D’s Treats Signature Bean Pie”
The Bean Pie dates to the 1930s, when the founder of the Nation of Islam, The Honorable Elijah Muhammad, told his followers to eschew pork and unhealthy starches like sweet potatoes, cornbread and adhere to a strict, but healthy diet, with a particular focus on the Navy Bean. Although there are many different stories on how the bean pie originated, one thing for sure is it was definitely used as a healthier substitute for the sweet potato pie.
